AI Nuggets: one topic per quarter hour, 4 slides at most

A learning format from Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences (HSBI): exactly one AI concept, technique or tool per 15 minutes, 4 slides at most. Why this works so well right now and how we use it with clients.

Everyone wants to understand AI, nobody has time for it. Calendars are full, and the full-day training you booked in spring is already outdated by autumn. For exactly this problem there is a format we really like: AI Nuggets (in German: KI Nuggets).

What is an AI Nugget?

The concept comes from Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences (HSBI). The idea is deliberately strict: in 15 minutes, one nugget covers exactly one concept, one idea, one technique or one tool around AI. Not the whole field, not an overview: one single thing, explained properly.

The frame is fixed:

  • 3 x 15 minutes for the content, plus 1 x 15 minutes for questions and discussion. One hour in total, no longer.
  • Two ways to fill the three content blocks: either three separate topics (one per quarter hour), or one topic broken down into three aspects (one per quarter hour).
  • A maximum of 4 slides per 15 minutes in the content blocks. If you need more, you have not cut the topic small enough yet.
  • The fourth block uses no slides at all. Just questions, discussion, exchange. In our experience these are the most valuable 15 minutes of the whole format: this is where it becomes clear how the topic touches people's own work and what they actually plan to do with it.

This constraint is not a limitation, it is the core of the format. With only four slides per quarter hour, you have to decide what really matters. There is no room for buzzword collections, feature lists or the fifth architecture overview. What remains is what people can actually apply afterwards.

Why this works so well right now

Two things come together at the moment. First: nobody has time. One hour fits into almost every calendar, a full training day almost never does. Second: the technology is changing extremely fast. Models, tools and best practices shift on a monthly basis. Large training programmes are often outdated before they are even fully planned.

AI Nuggets turn this around. Instead of learning a lot once a year, you regularly learn one small, current thing. That matches the pace of the technology: a nugget is quick to create, quick to update and quick to deliver. And it matches how people learn, because one focused hour sticks far better than a slide marathon of which, three weeks later, you only remember lunch.

How we use AI Nuggets with clients

We offer AI Nuggets as a format for companies, typically for two purposes.

Making the latest technology understandable. A new model, a new agent architecture, a tool everyone is talking about: in one hour we explain what is behind it, what it means for your company and what you can safely ignore.

Rolling out Chat.Wonk across the organisation. Introducing an AI tool is one thing, truly anchoring it in the workforce is another. With nuggets like "How do I set up my own agent?" or "How do I get the best out of a specific LLM?", teams learn step by step to use the tool productively. One building block per hour, directly applicable at their own desk.

The effect is the same in both cases: knowledge arrives where it is needed, without anyone having to clear a full day in their calendar.

Our takeaway

Good AI training rarely fails because of a lack of interest, and almost always because of time and pace. AI Nuggets solve both: one hour, one topic per quarter hour, 12 slides at most and a quarter of an hour of real conversation. Small enough to fit into any calendar, and current enough to keep up with the technology.

If you want to bring AI knowledge into your team, whether on new technology or on working with Chat.Wonk, get in touch. We will cut the nuggets to fit.
