KI in KMU Workshop 2026: we will be there
On September 22, 2026, we will join the 7th workshop on AI in small and medium-sized enterprises in Dresden: practical use cases, a poster session, and a Q&A fishbowl.
How does artificial intelligence actually succeed in small and medium-sized enterprises?
Not as an abstract vision of the future, but in concrete everyday business: Which applications already work? Where is measurable value created? Which technical, organizational, and cultural hurdles do companies have to overcome?
These are exactly the questions at the heart of the KI in KMU Workshop 2026 on September 22, 2026 in Dresden. And wonk.ai will be there.
Now in its 7th edition, the workshop "Artificial Intelligence in SMEs" takes place as part of the INFORMATIK FESTIVAL 2026 and brings together research, technology providers, and business practice. For us, this is exactly the right setting to go beyond talking about AI and instead share experiences, concrete use cases, and different perspectives.
AI practice instead of buzzwords
The program shows how broad the range of AI applications in small and medium-sized enterprises has become.
Topics include:
- language models, multimodal AI, and AI agents
- industrial image processing and computer vision
- embeddings and optimization methods
- edge AI and privacy-friendly AI platforms
- AI adoption in small and medium-sized enterprises
- human-AI collaboration and learning in the workplace
- technological sovereignty and lock-in risks
- concrete paths for companies without their own AI department
What we find particularly interesting is the combination of technical innovation and practical adoption. In our experience, the success of an AI project rarely depends on model quality alone.
At least as important are these questions: Does the solution fit the actual process? Is the benefit clear to employees? Can existing systems be integrated in a meaningful way? And can a first pilot project grow into a robust solution for everyday operations?
Exchange during the poster session
A special highlight of the workshop for us is the poster session starting at 2:00 pm. Numerous concrete projects and use cases will be presented there: from AI-supported quality control and edge-based LLM agents to cooperation models for companies that want to get started without their own AI department.
As part of the poster session, we will also host a Q&A fishbowl together with the participants.
In our view, this format fits the topic of AI in SMEs particularly well: instead of a classic frontal discussion, it creates an open space for questions, experiences, and different points of view.
What has already worked in companies? Where have projects stalled? What conditions are needed for AI to succeed? Which technologies are actually relevant for SMEs, and which perhaps are not?
These are exactly the questions we want to discuss.
Why we are taking part
At wonk.ai, we focus on how companies can use AI in a way that leads to concrete improvements in processes, products, and daily work.
That takes technology. Above all, however, it takes exchange.
Between research and industry. Between AI experts and the people who experience processes in practice every day. Between companies that have already gained first experience and those that are still figuring out where a sensible starting point might be.
The KI in KMU Workshop 2026 brings exactly these perspectives together.
That is why we are looking forward to a day full of practical examples, new ideas, and good conversations.
We will be there and look forward to meeting you in Dresden on September 22.
If you work with AI in SMEs, want to share your own experience, or are simply curious about concrete use cases: stop by and join the discussion.
